China is a big country with 56 different minorities. Each minority has its own language, customs, and music. Our program chose 4 famous pieces from different parts of China to describe how people feel happiness and enjoy their lives. Also, the music shows the differences between the minorities.

Happy dance music from far Western China by XinJiang minority.
2. Beautiful Southern China (江南好)
Music from an old poem to describe how beautiful it is in Southern China.
3. Dance of the Yao People (瑶族舞曲)
Yao people live in Southern China. People there love dance very much.
4. Colourful Clouds Chasing the Moon (彩云追月)
A beautiful romantic Cantonese melody.
Azalea Chinese Music Ensemble is one of the ensembles of VSO School of Music. The ensemble consists of many different Chinese instruments, and is directed by educator, composer, and Ruan player Zhimin Yu. The ensemble was only formed three years ago, but has already played some important concerts, such as the VSO 100th Anniversary outdoor concert at Sunset Beach, VSO Day of Music at Pyatt Hall, Orpheum showcase concerts, Dr. Sun-Yat Sen Garden moon festival concert, and many others. Azalea Chinese Music Ensemble focuses on playing famous Chinese master pieces, and introducing Chinese culture to the mainstream.
