“David Ward is a singular talent. His unique voice—high, keening, packed with emotion—is allied to a songwriting sensibility which is, at times, devastating.” Clash
Known for his cinematic, thought-provoking soul music, Ward is an artist ever keen to challenge himself.
Having spent the last five years between London and Berlin, opening for luminaries of the jazz and soul scene, including Jacob Collier, Lisa Fischer, and Becca Stevens, Ward is back in Vancouver working on his latest.
On his previous album, Violet, Gold + Rose, Ward worked with a diverse roster of Vancouver’s most exciting talent and international icons: grammy-winning engineer Russell Elevado (D’Angelo) and singer Patrice Quinn (Kamasi Washington).
In 2019, Ward and producing partner, Jeanette Wilkinson, ported the energy from touring into their international soul music series, Propeller. Together with his band, Golden Future, Ward collaborated and performed with a who’s who of local musicians and international A-list artists, including Daru Jones (Slum Village, Jack White); Patrice Quinn; and Brandon Coleman (Childish Gambino).
Ward is bottling the vibe of Propeller for his new album—one founded on deeply intractable grooves, glittering falsetto, and the soulful magnetism Ward brings to all his work.
“Most likely to: be assured of a Golden Future.” The Guardian
