How did the beauty of nature inspire Beethoven in writing his 6th Symphony? What is Acoustic Ecology and Sound Density? Have you ever been on a Soundwalk? Is there music in the world around us? We have so much to learn from nature and the environment, especially during this time when outdoor learning is an encouraged and valuable tool.

Emily Richardson, Education Assistant and Post-Secondary Music Student
Erica Binder (she/her) is an arts administrator and trumpet player based in Vancouver, BC. She is currently studying at UBC, pursuing an undergraduate degree in trumpet performance in addition to a Master of Management from the Sauder School of Business. Erica is passionate about exploring the interdisciplinary uses of music – from education to psychology to economics – and she is delighted to be a part of the VSO Education team!
Emily Richardson (she/her) is a Vancouver flutist currently pursuing a Masters of Music degree at UBC under VSO Principal Flutist Christie Reside. She has played in concert halls around the world, with a highlight being the National Youth Orchestra of Canada’s 2018 tour to Germany and Scotland. As part of the VSO Education Team, Emily loves being able to share her passion for orchestral music, music history, and the underappreciated piccolo.
