We would like to share music from South America arranged for guitar duo. Most are popular South American folk tunes, born from legends, and romantic notions of sorrow and love. For example we will open with La Llorona – In Latin American folklore, she is a ghost who roams waterfront areas mourning her drowned children. The program features music from Mexico, Brazil, Argentina and more. It is melodic and forward moving.

The Sequoia duo is a newly formed classical guitar duo involving Kamran Shahroki and Sara Wazani. In 2020, the pair found themselves nostalgic for the thrill of live music making and have since been exploring South American music – with its beautiful melodies, and strong sense of rhythm that they find approachable and enjoyable.
Kamran Shahrokhi started his music education by learning to play classical guitar. He has studied with guitarists Michael Strutt, Guzman Ramos and Hanh Nguyen. Kamran was inspired to pursue creating his own music and received his bachelor’s degree from the Vancouver Academy of Music in music composition. His music has been performed by local ensembles such as the Pacific Baroque Orchestra and Standing Wave Ensemble. He is also the first place winner of the 2020 SongSLAM.
New Westminster based classical guitarist and instructor, Sara Wazani, is an aspiring performer, and encouraging teacher at the Neil Douglas Guitar Shop. She is working towards her Bachelor of Music performance degree at the Vancouver Academy of Music, where she has received a generous scholarship and studies with Hanh Nguyen. She enjoys playing local festivals such as Live at the Gallery, and Uptown Live.
