Ubuntu String Quartet

As a UBC Music string quartet, we found a passion playing music of multiple genres, be it jazz, latin, contemporary, classical, and folk. When the pandemic restrictions first hit, we decided to publish a video to show that we could still make music even from a distance given the circumstances. The Danish String Quartet published multiple albums of folk music that they wrote their own arrangements for, and we decided we would perform one of them!

A quartet compromised of UBC music students, we were friends who met through summer camps and school and played together as friends before officially forming a group to perform officially. A South African saying, Ubuntu can be roughly translated to “I am who I am through each of us,” which we believed to be a fitting statement that best represents our group.
